Blinds

The quietest way to dress a window.

A blind should disappear when it is up and do exactly one thing well when it is down. We fit them to the reveal so there is no gap at the edge, no light leak at the top, and nothing hanging where it should sit flush.

Types

Four ways to hold the light.

  • Close detail of blade edges and the tilt mechanism of a slatted blind

    Roller

The plainest and most versatile. Choose the fabric and you choose the room — sunscreen to keep the view, translucent to soften it, blockout for bedrooms.

  • Daylight through slats casting soft banded shadows across a plain wall

    Zebra

Alternating sheer and solid bands that slide past each other, so a single blind moves from open view to full privacy without ever coming down.

  • Fine dark metal slats catching a hard edge of light

    Venetian

Tilting slats in timber or aluminium. The control of a shutter in a slimmer, lighter fitting — well suited to studies and kitchens.

  • Smooth white blades, unmarked by moisture, filtering bright daylight

    Honeycomb

A cellular fabric that traps a layer of air against the glass. The best insulator we fit, for west-facing rooms and anywhere that runs hot or cold.

Considerations

The practical questions.

Light control

Fabric openness does the work. Sunscreen keeps the outlook and cuts glare; translucent gives daytime privacy with a soft glow; blockout with side channels takes a bedroom genuinely dark.

Privacy

A translucent blind is private by day but not after dark, when the light is inside. Where a room is overlooked at night, we pair a sheer with a blockout on a double bracket.

Cleaning

A vacuum brush along the fabric once a season is enough. Fabrics are treated so marks lift with a damp cloth rather than soaking in.

Child safety

Every blind is fitted with a tensioned chain safety device anchored to the wall, as Australian regulations require. Motorised blinds remove the chain entirely and are what we recommend in children’s rooms.

Motorisation

Battery or hardwired, with a wall switch, remote or your phone. Worth it for high or hard-to-reach windows, and for banks of blinds you would otherwise operate one at a time.
